Unique Sucker Covers for Parties and More

Youll love watching the kids eyes light up when they attend your childs birthday party and see the cute suckers that are awaiting them. Not ordinary suckers! Thatll never do! Youll have fun character suckers to give them - ones theyve probably never seen before! Suckers are cheap, but theyll be the hit of the party, and youll save, save, save! Styrofoam balls make it easy for you to turn ordinary flat suckers into whimsical characters the kids will love. The balls need to be a little larger in diameter than the suckers. Youll find the ball shapes at any craft store. They can be found in bags of assorted sizes or all the same size. Youll need one ball for each sucker - that is, for each child.

Cut a slit in the bottom of each ball. The slit should be wide enough that the sucker - with wrapper - can be easily pushed into it. Trim the wrapper slightly, around the sucker, so it will have a rounded shape. Make sure you dont cut in close enough to cut the actual wrapper open. Push a sucker into each Styrofoam ball.

Felt works great for creating the characters but you can also use fabric pieces. Each character can be different or they can all be alike. Cover the ball with the fabric or felt and use a rubber band to gather it around the stick. The rubber band area will now become the neck of the character. Tie a bow tie or ribbon around the neck to conceal the rubber band. If the ribbon isnt wide enough to conceal the band simply unwrap the rubber band or snip it off. Use wiggly eyes from a craft store to begin making the face. If you dont have any of the silly eyes just draw eyes on with a magic marker. Cut round pieces of felt to make muzzles for certain characters. Cut small round pieces of felt to create ears. Felt works great for creating the rest of the face as well. Small black beads or pom-poms can be used to make noses for the lollipop people. Or, just make the entire face with a marker. There are many options for creating the sucker characters. Yarn or craft doll hair works great for making each character look a little different. Create bangs with short pieces of yarn. Create long hair with long sections of yarn. You can string beads onto the yarn pieces or create other looks using bows and ribbons. Lay the sucker characters out on the birthday table or create a stand for them. Just use an ordinary box with lid to hold the lollipops. Fill the box with tissue paper - or something similar - and poke holes in the top of the box. Slide the suckers into the holes and set the box on the table. The box can first be wrapped with birthday paper or tissue paper. If you want to cut the expense even more, but you still want to make the impressive suckers, simply eliminate the Styrofoam ball. Trim the cellophane around the sucker and wrap it with the piece of cloth. Tie the cloth shut then make the face. You can still make yarn hair for the characters or just serve them as-is. No matter how simplistic, or how detailed the characters are, the kids at the party will line up to grab one! The lollipop characters dont necessarily have to be for youngsters birthday parties. Make something similar to give to a graduate and his or her classmates. Make the sucker covers for Easter baskets, Christmas stockings, or just because youre bored on a rainy day. No matter what the occasion youll have happy kids - or happy adults - when you hand out the character suckers. Youll have so much fun making them that theyll probably be making a showing at many parties to come...
